Story behind the work

This artwork centers around the timeless symbol of the plum blossom (ume), a flower deeply rooted in Japanese cultural symbolism. Blooming at the end of winter while snow may still linger, the plum blossom represents resilience, quiet strength, and the promise of renewal.

At the heart of the composition lies a kinkoma-embroidered plum blossom taken from an antique furoshiki textile. The delicate gold couching embroidery radiates outward like a small universe, creating a calm yet powerful focal point.
