Story behind the work

“Moonlight sakura” captures a fleeting moment where night and spring meet.

The soft pink surface represents flowers in bloom - delicate, quiet, and ephemeral. It evokes the stillness of a spring evening, when petals seem to glow under the moonlight. The texture is subtle, almost hidden, like blossoms dissolving into the night air.

In contrast, the sweeping golden form - created with gold leaf and acrylic - moves across the surface like a beam of moonlight. It is both fluid and powerful, reflecting light differently from every angle, creating a sense of movement within stillness.

The composition is intentionally minimal, allowing the dialogue between pink and gold to unfold naturally. It is a balance between softness and radiance, fragility and permanence - much like the experience of cherry blossoms themselves.
