Collection: KIMONO MOM collaboration: Pine, Bamboo and Plum "Shochikubai"

This collection was inspired by a workshop ikasu did with Kimono Mom (you can see it on her YouTube channel).

Here we gathered our Shochikubai artworks for a very special offer - to share some lucky symbols for your most happy 2024 New Year!

"Shochikubai（松竹梅）" is a term that refers to the three main components of the pine, bamboo, and plum tree in Japanese culture. They are called "three fellows of winter", and this combination is often used in traditional Japanese art, especially during the New Year's celebrations. The term is often used in various contexts, including art, literature, and symbolism. Here's a breakdown of each component:

1. Sho (松): Pine

   • Symbolizes longevity, steadfastness, and virtue.
   • The pine tree is evergreen, representing endurance and immortality.

2. Chiku (竹): Bamboo

   • Symbolizes flexibility, strength, and resilience.
   • Bamboo bends in the wind but does not break, reflecting the ability to adapt and endure hardships.

3. Bai (梅): Plum Blossom

   • Symbolizes purity, beauty, and the arrival of spring.
   • The plum blossom is associated with the coming of new life and the ability to overcome adversity as it starts to bloom in severe winter cold.

It is a popular motif in various forms, including paintings, pottery, and decorations, where it is believed to bring good luck and positive qualities to the surroundings.
